Yeah, kinda! [Wally sighs.] No. Not really. I dunno, dude.

I'm not going to. She feels awful.

[Wally doesn't really have much to say to that. Mostly because he's busy refusing to feel guilty for yelling at her. He's still pissed off.]

[ Dick gives him a minute of silence before he realizes he's not responding, and then he huffs, annoyed. This so isn't how he'd wanted today to go, none of it, and now this is putting him right back in a bad mood. ]

So, what, are you just never gonna talk to her again?

It's an option. [An unrealistic option.]

I thought you guys were getting along. I thought...

Yeah, I thought so too. Apparently that wasn't enough for her though, since three months from now when we should've been getting along even better, she lies and hijacks a mission to make herself look good. So I guess we weren't getting along as well as I thought.

[ Sometimes it's hard keeping people's secrets for them. But Artemis doesn't even know he knows about her family, and it isn't his place to say anything, anyway. Besides, he's done enough damage. ]

... If she didn't care what you thought, she wouldn't have come clean to you about what happened.

[ That much, at least, he thinks is true. ]

[Wally knows he's right too, which is why his dismissive shrug is halfhearted and why he won't look at Dick as he digs out another apple. This bag is probably not going to make it through the next hour.]

[ Dick's quiet while he cleans up some of the salvageable pans. This whole situation is way too complicated, for something so simple, and he's so not cut out to play teenage therapist. ]

...she might think that I think she's the mole. [Wally flicks his core into the trash can.]

I think the word "traitor" was used.

I didn't say that! And I didn't even mean to say anything like I thought she was. She just kind of jumped to conclusions and I...didn't correct her. [Wally grabs another apple and takes his time picking the sticker off.] Not because I think she is. I don't.

I know that. But she doesn't. And with the way you cut her off, I can't say I blame her.

Dude, it's not like I stood there and tore her to pieces. She lied to us, and she used the fact that we trusted her to put the mission first to do it! That's not just a supremely uncool friendship policy, that's a supremely uncool work policy.

Am I supposed to just forgive and forget that? If any one of us had pulled that kind of crap, not only would the rest of the team be pissed off but our mentors would probably have smacked us down for it too.

I'm not denying that.

Good, 'cause it's all true!

[Wally falls silent again, crunching on the rest of the apples. The dishes clatter in the sink and the air between them is uncomfortable, but not exactly charged. Wally's not looking for advice or looking to be placated, or not really looking for anything at all. Dick's just...Dick.

Robin had been worried about not being able to do things like a normal kid, but Wally had always felt that the friendship he and Robin had couldn't get any more natural.

...but then his big mouth has to ruin it.] So like...how upset was she? Run away from home, upset? [He's still upset, and he tells himself that he's perfectly justified in still being upset, but he remembers how she hadn't shouted back, hadn't snapped or called him names or anything when she told him. She'd just been...sad.

Resigned and sad.]

[ He scrubs a little harder at the last of the cake pans. They'd been having a good time, hadn't they? And then this — whatever it is — had to go and ruin it. He'd admitted to Artemis that he was jealous, and it's times like this that he feels it more than ever; but it isn't her that's coming between them, it's Wally and all of his maddening hangups. And there's something just endlessly sad in the realization that nothing Dick can do for him would be enough right now.

Dick shuts off the water and frowns down at the sink. He doesn't like the feeling that he's violating her trust by having this conversation at all, but... Wally needs to know how deep this goes, doesn't he? And it's not like he'll talk to her on his own. ]

... She was gonna skip town for a while. I talked her out of it.

[Yeah, that's definitely one of the good and really bad things about Wally West. He is so stubborn he makes mules look accommodating.]

Seriously?

[Wally groans and slumps forward, thunking his forehead against a cabinet.]

[ He turns, eyeing Wally. ]

You're surprised?

Well, yeah. Why wouldn't I be?

Unbelievable.

What?

[ Dick just huffs an annoyed little huff. THIS IS STUPID. ]

Figure it out!

Fine, I will! [Wally grabs the bag of remaining apples and flounces out of the kitchen, all indignant.

He sticks his head back in the door a second later.] And thanks for the cake! [how does he still sound all huffy and sincerely grateful at the same time- ok he's leaving again all right]
